Saturday was an early day. One of the other big reasons to be in Vegas (besides a friends Birthday) was the Art Institute of Las Vegas was holding an Open House. With me running and starting my own photo business I do recognize the places where I can grow and increase my photography knowledge and business skills. So i thought heck why not check out the college.
Here we are the two of us (Nicole decided to not attend with us, but then again if I had lost my wallet not even 12 hours before I would not want to do a thing either) getting to the college at 9am. Last year when I began to toy with the idea of this school I was quickly turned off from the idea when they would call me every week and if not every other day to talk to me about applying, so yes I was very cautious arriving there. After checking in Annie and I are sitting there eating out danishes and apple juice when up comes miss "administration I'm gonna shove this college down your throat." However she was very rude towards me. She simply asked who is my advisor and then blew me off and tried to convince Annie that she needs to attend this school. This is not a cheap school and it has taken me some time to understand that for education it is ok to go into a little debt in order to better yourself. Annie admits that she is not there herself just yet. So here we have Admin lady telling Annie that all girls will see a dress in the window and if they want it they will do WHATEVER they want and can to get it. She pretty much informed us that charging it and going into to debt for it was a great thing. (AND NOW THERE IS PROOF THAT SHOWS WHY AND HOW OUR COUNTRY GOT INTO THIS ECONOMIC STRUGGLE.) The best part was when Annie asked then to have a rough estimate of what it would cost her and Admin Lady told her she couldn't tell her till she applied. Annie laughed in her face and said that is why she wont do it. Another Admin Lady, who was much nicer, interrupted us and it saved our life.
We ended up getting stuck in the tour group that the mean Admin lady was leading although we hung out towards the back and did our own looking. I wasn't really feeling the whole school attending thing until we reached... the studio where PHOTO MAGIC HAPPENS. Now mind you this is only a digital photography program so it was the studio set up for a current students upcoming shoot. I WANTED TO STAY. Nobody else in my tour was there for photography and I choked when the instructor in the room asked if I had any questions. I was like a little kid on their first trip to Toys-r-Us. But then once we left all the questions I had came back but it was too late. DANG YOU BRAIN!! DANGGGG YYOOOUUUUU!
The open forum discussion and out lay of the programs had much info along with this one teacher who had the whole Butt in Front jeans look going on (B.I.F. for short). She was a hoot and not in a good way as she had all sorts of things to say for everything under the sun. She wouldn't shut up long enough for the other teachers to speak about their own programs. Annie and I loved every moment of it.
So in the long run it appears that I will be applying for the May area semester. This program I could go on for days about the awesomeness but let me tell you that if I truly want to get into the mainstream model/magazine photography this school will get me there quicker than my own two hands will. If anything I have learned from several people that this school has an amazing connection to contacts. So there will be my best networking chances. I will keep everyone posted on the updates as I prepare for this school
...Saturday to be continued...
